About Daan
We are a collective of (inter) nationally leading professionals. Everyone has their own company in their own field. Daan has brought them together as a community of crafts people. We offer workshops in nature.
Details
On this 6-day pottery workshop in the Netherlands, you will learn the basics of throwing your own ceramics. Use a turntable to create a beautiful vase, for instance, or hand sculpt with clay to form your own design. Furthermore you literally "dig" deeper into the matter. If possible, we look for our own clay, learn how to clean it and how to process it in such a way that it is ready for processing. At the end of the week we will light our handmade wood oven at temperatures till 1100 degrees.
- Craftsman and tradition preservers.
- Nature lovers.
- Ceramic enthusiasts.
- People interested in sustainability.
Requirements
- You must be over 18 years old.
Description
You also learn how to make workpieces that are of the same weight and shape. (for example, a set of cups or bowls). If you have had lessons elsewhere in the past, Maarten will build on the experience you already have and refine your techniques if necessary. At the end of the week, the wood-burning oven is fired on site to around 1100 degrees.
Our experienced teacher Maarten Damen will lead you through the pottery process, from designing your own ceramics, to throwing them, then finishing, glazing and drying. Finish by firing your creations in a handmade wood-burning oven.
We will start by throwing smaller pieces, then we will move on to more and more advanced ceramics as you become accustomed to working with clay. A part of a small, intimate group, you will be given lots of attention by Maarten so that you can really develop your skill.

The Green Circle is located in the natural estate of De Zonnebloem in the east of Holland. Our spaces are all built with nature in mind. The metal forging workshop, for example, stands between two banks and features a grass roof. Our basketry and sculpture workshops are held in a beautiful wooden structure, sheltered with a cotton tarpaulin. Our new field kitchen features a cozy campfire and is protected by a large roof. During your stay, you can sleep in a tent, a camper or a log cabin on our premises. Alternatively, there are lots of B&Bs, hostels and hotels nearby.
