Detailed Daily Program

Malaga welcomes you!

Welcome to Andalusia, and more specifically Malaga, an energetic and vibrant 2,800 year old city that acts as the gateway to Spain’s famous “Costa del Sol”. You’ll be picked up from the airport and head north, into the green, sun-baked countryside - and up into the mountains. Your destination for the day (and your home for the next three days) is El Chorro, a village in the mountains above Malaga that has become one of the world’s most famous rock climbing locations, thanks to its proximity to the Gorge of the Gaitanes.

You’ll settle into your accommodation and meet your fellow climbers - and with the help of our guides and local experts, you’ll start planning your climbing for the next couple of days (and maybe even get your first experience of the rock face if there’s time).

First day in El Chorro

These two days you start climbing in earnest. El Chorro features over 1,000 different routes across an unusually wide variety of difficulties - so whether you’re a complete beginner or a veteran wanting to tackle something that’ll really make you sweat, this is the place to climb.

Second day in El Chorro

The more challenging sections feature highly technical wall routes, athletic ascents up columns or “chorreras,” and some inclines that approach a breathtaking 90 degrees. Alternately, build your skills (and maybe your confidence) on one of the less demanding routes. Whatever your preference, all necessary guidance and training will be provided by seasoned professionals. In the evening, you’ll retire to your half-board accommodation in the village, and sample a little of the relaxed Andalusian way of life.

Home of toughest climb in the world

After breakfast, you’ll pack up and say farewell to El Chorro before being driven east to the beautiful white-walled town of Villanueva del Rosario, famous for its olive oil, rolling wheat fields - and incredible rock formations. You’ll have a day to explore the caves, hollows, ravines and cleft faces, some of which climb 300 metres above the surrounding landscape. Depending on your skill level and weather conditions, you’ll also get the chance to climb in some of the most demanding conditions you’ll find on this trip. (Nearby is the 270-foot route of overhanging stamina climbing known as Chilam Balam, internationally famous as perhaps the toughest climb in the entire world). Tapas and drinks at the accommodation.

Granada, Malaga and home

After breakfast you’ll have the chance to enjoy Granada, a majestic and historic city at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and home of the Alhambra Palace, an imposing 800 year old Moorish citadel that attracts millions of visitors every year. Then, as the day fades, you’ll be transferred to Malaga airport, ready to explore the city or catch your connecting flight home.
