Built in 1833, Hale Ho’ike’ike at the Bailey House was home of missionary teacher Edward Bailey and his family, and was the compound of a Hawaiian chief. It now houses the largest collection of Hawaiian artefacts of pre-western contact in Maui County. The Maui Historical Society, the oldest historical and preservation society on Maui, runs the Bailey House today. It is the perfect place to gain an authentic Hawaiian cultural experience learning about the ukulele, Hawaii's official instrument, from a Native Hawaiian.
